La muta di una vedova nera

Disgustoso e ipnotico in parti uguali: non riuscirete a togliere gli occhi da questo video che ha come protagonista il ragno più temuto al mondo.

Chi la vede, cerca di restarvi alla larga: per questo non capita tutti i giorni di assistere al processo di muta di una vedova nera occidentale (Latrodectus hesperus), tipica dei caldi deserti degli Stati Uniti meridionali. 

TI AMO, TI AMMAZZO. Le femmine di questo ragno producono un veleno a base di neurotossine, 15 volte più potente di quello di un serpente a sonagli. Un morso del ragno può essere mortale per un bambino o un anziano, ma queste creature sono timide e notturne, e raramente attaccano se non disturbate. A fare le spese del veleno sono, piuttosto, i maschi della specie, che spesso finiscono vittime delle femmine dopo l'accoppiamento (da qui il nome e la fama sinistra).

CAMBIO D'ABITO. Il processo di muta avviene in media 7 volte nel corso della vita degli aracnidi, quando l'esoscheletro che li riveste si è fatto troppo stretto. Prima di ogni muta, indispensabile per il processo di crescita, può capitare che i ragni si ritirino in luoghi solitari, e digiunino per lunghi periodi.

Costruito sul modello dell'uomo, si muove con grande libertà e può valutare situazioni critiche. Valkyrie, il robot della Nasa. Thailand army continues crackdown after coup

Thailand's military has ordered 35 more people, including prominent academics, to report to them by Saturday afternoon as the post-coup crackdown continues. The move comes a day after the army ordered more than 100 politicians, including ex-PM Yingluck Shinawatra, to come to the military council. Ms Yingluck was detained in Bangkok on Friday and spent the night in custody. Many on the army's latest list have previously been charged with speaking or acting against the monarchy. Meanwhile, several hundred protesters have taken to the streets of Bangkok to show their anger at military's seizure of power, defying a ban on large gatherings. Anti-coup banners were unfurled as they arrived at Victory Monument. Officials said the former prime minister would not be held for more than a week but insisted that her detention was necessary while matters in the country were "organised".
