India train accident kills 11 in Karnataka

A railway official told the BBC they could see many bodies trapped in the wreckage
At least 11 people have died after three coaches of a train derailed in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, railway officials say.
The accident took place near Anekal, about 40km (25 miles) from the state capital, Bangalore, on Friday morning.
Officials said the toll was likely to rise as many bodies were trapped in the wreckage. Seventeen people are injured.
There have been numerous train accidents in India in recent years, killing hundreds of people.
India's railway network operates 9,000 passenger trains and carries some 18 million passengers every day.
Railway officials said the Bangalore-Ernakulam Intercity Express left Bangalore a little after 06:00 local time [12:30GMT] and that the accident took place 90 minutes later.
"I had dozed off when there was a sudden jerk and people started falling off," Vinay, who works for an IT software company, told BBC Hindi's Imran Qureshi.
"I tried getting out through the emergency exit window, but there was a lot of smoke. So we jumped out of the train."
Correspondent say India's vast railway network is trying to reduce frequent accidents.
In October, 12 people were killed after two passenger trains collided in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
In May, 23 people died after a passenger train derailed and hit a stationary goods train also in Uttar Pradesh.

Thailand army continues crackdown after coup

Thailand's military has ordered 35 more people, including prominent academics, to report to them by Saturday afternoon as the post-coup crackdown continues. The move comes a day after the army ordered more than 100 politicians, including ex-PM Yingluck Shinawatra, to come to the military council. Ms Yingluck was detained in Bangkok on Friday and spent the night in custody. Many on the army's latest list have previously been charged with speaking or acting against the monarchy. Meanwhile, several hundred protesters have taken to the streets of Bangkok to show their anger at military's seizure of power, defying a ban on large gatherings. Anti-coup banners were unfurled as they arrived at Victory Monument.
