Londra: arrivano i bus a due piani elettrici

Lo ha annunciato il sindaco Boris Johnson. Entro ottobre 2015 circolerà nella capitale il primo Double Decker completamente elettrico.

Il sindaco di Londra Boris Johnson ha dichiarato che presto nella Citycircolerà il primo autobus a due piani completamente elettrico. L'annuncio è stato fatto durante il recente Clean Bus Summit, un importante convegno internazionale sulla mobilità pubblica sostenibile.

UNA CITTÀ SEMPRE PIÙ GREEN. Si tratta di un ulteriore passo avanti per la metropoli britannica, che è  già da tempo tra le capitali europee maggiormente all’avanguardia sul sentiero della mobilità sostenibile.

Lo dimostra il suo grande impegno nel rendere più efficienti i propri mezzi pubblici: dal 2008 a oggi l’amministrazione ha aggiunto oltre 1.300 autobus ibridi e circa 1.400 sono stati rimessi a nuovo, riducendo le emissioni di quasi il 90%.

DAL ROSSO... AL VERDE. Il nuovo Double Decker (così si chiamano i caratteristici bus londinesi) sarà attivo a partire da ottobre 2015, e affiancherà i già rodati Routemasters, ossia quegli autobus a due piani ibridi (elettricità e gasolio) recentemente messi in funzione su varie tratte cittadine.

La scelta green non si rispecchierà in un effettivo cambio cromatico: insomma, i cari bus rossi continueranno a rimanere tali.

SUPERCELLE. In molti nutrivano dubbi sulla possibilità di sviluppare batterie di dimensioni sufficienti per alimentare un autobus di così grandi dimensioni. Ma grazie all’azienda cinese BYD, con la quale l’amministrazione collaborava da tempo, l'ostacolo tecnico è stato superato, permettendo la realizzazione del progetto entro il prossimo autunno.

Thailand army continues crackdown after coup

Thailand's military has ordered 35 more people, including prominent academics, to report to them by Saturday afternoon as the post-coup crackdown continues. The move comes a day after the army ordered more than 100 politicians, including ex-PM Yingluck Shinawatra, to come to the military council. Ms Yingluck was detained in Bangkok on Friday and spent the night in custody. Many on the army's latest list have previously been charged with speaking or acting against the monarchy. Meanwhile, several hundred protesters have taken to the streets of Bangkok to show their anger at military's seizure of power, defying a ban on large gatherings. Anti-coup banners were unfurled as they arrived at Victory Monument. Officials said the former prime minister would not be held for more than a week but insisted that her detention was necessary while matters in the country were "organised".
