Microsoft compra Mojang: adesso è ufficiale

Come previsto, è arrivata oggi l'ufficialità. Microsoft annuncia di aver stretto un accordo per l'acquisizione di Mojang, l'azienda svedese che ha dato vita al franchise diMinecraft. Non sono ancora note le cifre dell'operazione, ma stando alle ultime indiscrezioni dovrebbe trattarsi di circa 2.5 miliardi di dollari.
"La nostra relazione con Mojang è iniziata quando abbiamo proposto al team di portare Minecraft su console", spiega Phil Spencer, responsabile della divisione Xbox. "Minecraft è diventato velocemente il gioco di maggior successo su Xbox LIVE, con oltre due miliardi di ore giocate su Xbox 360 nel corso degli ultimi due anni. Quella partnership ha preparato il terreno per altre opportunità".
Microsoft crede nella community di Minecraft e la vede come una chance per diversificare il proprio portfolio di giochi e al contempo raggiungere nuovi giocatori attraverso diverse piattaforme. Per questo il titolo continuerà a essere disponibile anche su iOS, Android e PlayStation, oltre che su Xboxe PC.
"La community di Minecraft è variegata e appassionata, di ogni età e luogo. Rispettiamo il brand e lo spirito indipendente che ha reso grande Minecraft e continueremo a portare avanti la tradizione dell'innovazione per spingere il franchise. I nostri investimenti in cloud, Xbox LIVE e tecnologie mobile daranno l'opportunità ai giocatori di beneficiare di mondi più ricchi e grandi, strumenti di sviluppo più potenti e nuove possibilità per unirsi alla community Minecraft", continua Phil Spencer.
Microsoft annuncia infine che il prossimo anno si terrà nuovamente il Minecon, cui appuntamento è saltato nel 2014.

Thailand army continues crackdown after coup

Thailand's military has ordered 35 more people, including prominent academics, to report to them by Saturday afternoon as the post-coup crackdown continues. The move comes a day after the army ordered more than 100 politicians, including ex-PM Yingluck Shinawatra, to come to the military council. Ms Yingluck was detained in Bangkok on Friday and spent the night in custody. Many on the army's latest list have previously been charged with speaking or acting against the monarchy. Meanwhile, several hundred protesters have taken to the streets of Bangkok to show their anger at military's seizure of power, defying a ban on large gatherings. Anti-coup banners were unfurled as they arrived at Victory Monument.
